| When we were growing
up, we couldn't wait to get DONE with school,
could we? There was a desperate urge to get "out
there" and show the world how smart we were. As
we age, we begin to realize how little we really
know (or remember!) and
now we sometimes hunger to go back to those school
days and try again.
The great thing is that
today there's no excuse for NOT being a life-long
learner. Classes are everywhere, and there are
thousands of courses and seminars available on
the internet, as well. It's
also easy to give the gift of learning.
So if you're still
struggling to find just the right gift for someone
you cherish, read on and find out how you can
give the gift of a whole new world!
See you soon!

The Gift
of a Whole New World.
Don't you get tired of traipsing around
the malls looking for a gift -- ANY gift -- and wish
that you could give something inspired, something wonderful,
something life-changing? You can, you
know. You probably won't find it at the mall, though;
you'll find it at a nearby educational institution or
on the internet. Give the
gift of education!
No, not
an entire college education (unless you're
feeling flush, of course) but
a course or a couple of courses in something your gift
recipient would love to know more about.
A class in public speaking, to help him or her excel in
a chosen career and maybe make the next step up the ladder
of success. A class in something fun and creative. There's
a world of educational opportunities out there to choose
from.
How
to Give Education
- Know
thy recipient! Think about
what he or she would like to learn more about, or would
benefit from studying. A great cooking
class might be just the stress-buster that keeps your
career-minded sister sane. An art class might bring
out the blossom of creativity in your best friend. Give
thought to what you are seeking before you go "shopping"
for a class.
- Research
the opportunities local to the recipient.
You may be giving the class long-distance to someone
you love, but you can probably locate their nearest
community college online, or find a community center
that has the course they'd like. Be
specific, and they're more likely to take advantage
of your offer. Look for an educational
series, if your friend loves variety -- perhaps through
a museum or other cultural venue.
- Give
the course in the form of a gift certificate or card,
and let them set up the time/days that are most convenient
for them. Tell them you'll pay the bill
if they select what they wish to enroll in.
- If your
friend or loved one is nearby, why not take the class
together? You could develop a whole
new interest together, and it will certainly deepen
your friendship as you share the experience. Who
knows, you might find yourselves making a habit of taking
classes together for years to come!

The "e"
in Education.
There's probably more educational
opportunity available on the internet than you would think
possible. Everything
from full college degree programs to free courses in everything
from cuisine to culture. This is
a great way to give education because it's easy for you
to pay for it (a credit card will do it) and the recipient
can often choose to study any time of the day or night.
For those who like the interaction
of a class setting, there are also courses available that
include a chat feature or full teleconferencing.
Tracking
down online learning options.
As with many things on the internet,
it's more a matter of ruling out what you DON'T want,
than finding what you DO want in an educational experience.
Just put "online learning"
into your favorite search engine and you'll be staggered
with choices. Take some time and
enjoy yourself as you get to know what's out there.
Courses
that can count toward a degree or certification almost
always come with a price tag (minimal
to hefty) so be sure of what
you're including in your gift. If you
want to give a gift that comes without a price tag, but
shows you care and put some thought into it, why not give
a coupon book that you put together yourself with the
web addresses of some free online courses that you and
your friend or loved one can take together at specific
times -- so you can share the experience and the fun.

| Tips
for Success
How do you get ahead
in this competitive job market? Here are a few
things to keep in mind.
- Seek
outopportunities outside of work that will teach
you skills and give you experiences that translate
into greater competence on the job --
and be sure to post any awards, certificates
and the like that these might bring your way!
- Keep
growing through education --
whether it's a higher degree or specialty training.
- Dress
for success! That
means, dress for the job you WANT, not the job
you HAVE. If you want to be
taken seriously and thought of in the context
of the job you are dying to have, dress the
part and the boss will have a much easier time
visualizing you in it.
Of course, we're here
to keep you looking your professional best, so
don't hesitate to let us know if we can do anything
to improve our care of your garments or make things
easier for you to access our services. |
